Zusammenfassung: | This chapter provides an overview of the methodology for cooling superconducting technologies. The fundamentals of a cryogenic cooling system, along with the various associated heat sources, are mentioned. Moreover, the various cooling strategies, such as bath cooling and forced-flow cooling and dry/cryogen-free systems pertaining to superconducting technologies for power application, are illustratively discussed.
This chapter provides an overview of the methodology for cooling superconducting technologies. It discusses the cooling strategies employed in superconducting devices. The fundamentals of a cryogenic cooling system, along with the various associated heat sources, are mentioned. In general cases, the demand for High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) systems is focused toward energy systems and health care. Moreover, national laboratories and industries across the world focused the attention toward the electrical system applications of HTS, recognizing the importance of cryogenics to enable such fields. The fundamental understating and calculation of heat sources is an essential procedure for the safe operation of superconducting devices. In order to address the issues related to cryogenic or general cooling strategies, special attention is required for the estimation of heat sources. A cryogen-free switch opened using a pulse to switch between the heater and the voltage to keep the switch open is conduction cooled. |
