Zusammenfassung: | In effective portfolio-wide knowledge management (KM), knowledge is managed strategically at the portfolio level and support is provided for KM in individual projects or programmes within the portfolio. KM contributes to the successful delivery of the portfolio, the organisation’s strategic objectives and targets, and the organisation’s strategic knowledge needs. Portfolio-wide KM differs from organisation-wide KM by focusing on KM within the portfolio and on knowledge flows between the portfolio and business as usual. Portfolio-wide KM is within the sphere of influence of people responsible for supporting the definition and delivery of portfolios, programmes and projects – including the development of standard project management practices, provision of tools and support for their application. Portfolios shouldn’t pick up the cost of all KM activities in projects – these costs should be factored into the cost of doing the project. KM services that affect the early stages of projects and programmes usually have a greater impact than services later in the lifecycle. |
