description An electronic device is described which allows for counting of the filling/emptying cycles which occur during high‐pressure soxhlet extraction. Previously, the number of cycles which occurred during an extraction run were counted manually from a strip chart recording of the thermal excursions associated with the cycling events. This device automates the detection, accumulation, and display of these events and was found to exhibit a counting accuracy of at least 94%. It extends the application of high‐pressure soxhlet extraction to areas which routinely require a high degree of precision.
