Zusammenfassung:Studies were made on the origin of the F band in the absorption spectra of alkali halides. CsF crystals were irradiated with x rays at 295 un. Concent 85% K and its absorption spectrum determined at 295, 80, and 18 un. Concent 85% K. The spectrum had a principal triplet (636, 667, and 707 M ) and a weaker component at st run. Concent 570 m . The question of whether the weak band or triplet is the F band is discussed. It is concluded that the F band may be related to the cesium ion and not to the type of lattice. (D.L.C.)
