Limits on the Higgs boson lifetime and width from its decay to four charged leptons

The measurement of the Higgs boson lifetime is derived from its flight distance in the CMS detector with an upper bound of [tau]H3.5x10-9 MeV. The measurement of the width is obtained from an off-shell production technique, generalized to include anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson to two electroweak bosons. From this measurement, a joint constraint is set on the Higgs boson width and a parameter f[Lambda]Q that expresses an anomalous coupling contribution as an on-shell cross-section fraction. The measurement of the Higgs boson lifetime is derived from its flight distance in the CMS detector with an upper bound of [tau]H<1.9 super(X)10-13 s at the 95% confidence level (C.L.), corresponding to a lower bound on the width of [lower right quadrant]H>3.5x10-9 MeV. The limit on the Higgs boson width is [lower right quadrant]H<46 MeV with fAQ unconstrained and [lower right quadrant]H<26 MeV for f[Lambda]Q=0 at the 95% C.L. The constraint f[Lambda]Q<3.8 super(x)10-3 at the 95% C.L. is obtained for the expected standard model Higgs boson width.
<cop>United States</cop><pub>American Physical Society</pub><doi>10.1103/PhysRevD.92.072010</doi><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0885-824X</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7476-0158</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4015-4376</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6027-4511</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2939-5646</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5230-8387</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3154-3123</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5524-880X</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6185-2045</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9580-683X</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1275-7292</orcidid><orcidid>https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3090-2948</orcidid><oa>free_for_read</oa></addata></record> |
