Phacidin, an antifungal antibiotic, isolated from the canker fungus Potebniamycesbalsamicola Smerlis var. boycei Funk is shown to be 2-methoxy-6-nonanoyl-4H-pyran-4-one-3-carboxaldehyde. Carbon-13 nmr spectra of phacidin and several related γ-pyrones are discussed.
