NASA GRC has begun using a laser fiber diameter measurement system, and we are considering eventually characterizing each SiC fiber prior to testing in creep/stressed oxidation. The laser system will be described in this presentation, as well as examples of fiber diameter data obtained in the past at AFRL. We are currently discussing the merits of using an average diameter in testing/data analysis vs. using a measured or "known" diameter. Information about our current intermediate temperature SiC fiber stress rupture testing will also be provided.
