Zusammenfassung: | A 60 years old male patient with bilateral carotid artery obstruction was scheduled for carotid endarterectomy of the right common carotid artery. Anesthesia was induced with thiopental sodium and succinylcholine and maintained with 0.8∼1.5 vol% isoflurane with 50% nitrous oxide in oxygen. Arterial blood pressure and end-tidal CO2 tension(PETCO2) were monitored with patient monitoring device. Blood glucose level was measured and electrocardiography(ECG) and electroencephalography(EEG) were also monitored. Intravenous bolus of thiopental sodium was administered two times during carotid clamp for cerebral protection. No significant changes of vital signs and EEG were founded during the carotid artery clamp and release. Soon after the patient was recovered from anesthesia, he was transferred to intensive care unit. He was discharged without anyneurologic sequelae on the 19th postoperative day.
