NUOVE PROPOSTE DI CONTESTUALIZZAZIONE DEI MOSAICI PAVIMENTALI DELLE TERME DI PORTA MARINA DI OSTIA

Les mosaïques des thermes de Porta Marina à Ostie se caractérisent par une grande variabilité de leur typologie, de leurs thèmes et de leur chronologie. Trois programmes décoratifs ont été identifiés, en association avec les principales phases de l'édifice. La mosaïque des athlètes peut être attribuée à la période d'inauguration du bâtiment (au début du règne d'Antonin le Pieux). Son iconographie et son style décoratif, ainsi que les statues découvertes pendant les fouilles, exaltent la figure impériale et la grandeur de la dynastie antonine. La construction des thermes de Porta Marina correspond à une étape cruciale de la succession impériale entre Hadrien et Antonin le Pieux. Deux mosaïques à décor marin sont décrites ici pour la première fois. Elles ont été réalisées pendant les travaux de restauration dans la palestre et le frigidarium et appartiennent à un programme décoratif d'époque sévérienne. Enfin, l'analyse du pavement en marbre polychrome dans le frigidarium et l'étude des différentes phases de réorganisation et de reconstruction du bâtiment permettent de dater ce sol du milieu du IVe s. apr. J.-C. The corpus of mosaics from the Porta Marina Baths at Ostia is characterized by a large variability of the typology, themes and chronology. Three decorative programs have been identified, in relation with the main phases of the building. The mosaic of athletes can be attributed to the period of the building's inauguration (at the beginning of Antoninus Pius' reign). Its iconography and decorative style, as well as the statues found during the excavations, magnify the imperial figure and the greatness of the Antonine dynasty. The building of the Porta Marina Baths happened at crucial time of the imperial succession from Hadrian to Antoninus Pius. Herein, two mosaics with marine scenes are described for the first time. They were realized during restoration works in the palaestra and frigidarium, and belonged to a Severan decorative program. Finally, the analysis of the polychrome marble floor in the frigidarium and the study of the several phases of the reorganization and reconstructing of the building allow a datation of this mosaic to the mid-4th century AD.
