description This article is also concerned with the work of P. Vilar and E. J. Hamilton on factors of the capitalistic development in the 16th century. The author examines critically the various theories that consider forced savings as a determining element in «primitive accumulation» of capital. The author claims that the problem of the origin of industrial capital must be considered above all from the point of view of real flows and not from the point of view of financial flows. A satisfactory theory for the first phase of capitalistic development seems to be found in a model due to A. W. Lewis, where the importance of extra-industrial sources of primitive accumulation, is diminished.
