Swimming Behavior in Representative Species of the Three Genera of North American Geomyids

Thomomys bottae were better swimmers than either Pappogeomys castanops or Geomys bursarius. Superiority in the water may reflect size differences, and actual behavioral adaptation to a mountain habitat subject to flooding every spring.
