LA VIDA MUSICAL EN EL COLEGIO FRANCISCANO DE SAN BUENAVENTURA DE QUITO (1813-1839)

Hasta la fecha, las investigaciones musicológicas en instituciones religiosas ecuatorianas han estado mayormente dirigidas hacia las catedrales, abordando en menor proporción los conventos y monasterios. En este sentido, la vida musical en el Convento Máximo de San Francisco de Quito y sus áreas anexas todavía permanece inexplorada. El presente artículo pretende proporcionar información inédita sobre la pervivencia de algunas prácticas litúrgico-musicales que se celebraban dentro del Colegio Franciscano de San Buenaventura de Quito desde 1813 hasta 1839, así como acerca de sus respectivos protagonistas, con el propósito de mitigar tal deficiencia y enriquecer la historiografía de la institución. Hitherto, musicological works in Ecuador’s religious institutions have been focused mostly on cathedrals, approaching convents and monasteries to a lesser extent. In this regard, the musical life of the Convent of San Francisco in Quito and other areas attached to it still remain undocumented. Thus, this article aims to provide unpublished data concerning the survival of some liturgical-musical practices celebrated in the Franciscan School of San Buenaventura in Quito from 1813 to 1839, and individuals active there, in order to mitigate such deficiency and enrich the current historiography of the institution.
