An international field trial at 1.3 /spl mu/m using an 800 km cascade of semiconductor optical amplifiers

In the European ACTS-upgrade project an operational link between Madrid and Lisbon has been realised at 1.3 /spl mu/m using RZ transmission over a cascade of semiconductor optical amplifiers in the installed network. We also present an all-optical 3R regenerator.
