description We report on the design of a novel single photon counting X-Ray prototype camera for in-house XRD. The heart of the camera is a large area, hybrid pixel detector, which consists of the monolithic pixelated silicon sensor bump bonded to 16 readout chips called PXD18k, presented for the first time at NSS 2011. The radiation sensitive area of the camera is 38.5 mm × 77.5 mm and consists of 294,912 pixels of dimensions 100 μm × 100 μm. It contains two discriminators allowing working with selected energy window. The camera can count incoming photons exceeding 3Mcps/pixel and it can work in zero dead-time mode allowing acquisition of every incoming photon.
