Zusammenfassung:The electromagnetic interference problem between an existing high voltage power line and a newly designed underground gas pipeline is analysed. The paper investigates soil resistivity and its influence on induced voltages. A new approach using a vertically layered soil structure, along the power line - pipeline common distribution corridor is proposed. To determine the appropriate horizontal and vertical equivalent earth structures corresponding to soil resistivity measurements, a genetic algorithm based optimization technique has been developed. The obtained results are compared with RESAP Module of CDEGS software package and used in a companion paper for a detailed analysis of induced voltages in the underground pipeline.
