description Smart grid (SG) is an intelligent and automatic power distributed system featured by two-way flows of information and electricity. It has become a very attractive technology because of the rapid demand of power distribution control. While the access network (AN) of SG network attracts much attention, few papers focus on the core network (CN), which is also an extremely important part of SG network. CN provides strong supports for massive multimedia services. Thereby, this paper proposes a novel structure called IMS-based SG System (IMSSG) as a CN for SG network, which makes improvement and simplification of the traditional IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Each functional entity and the signaling-flow of the proposed IMSSG are described in details. As a consequence, the proposed IMSSG has all essential parts of IMS without cutting off main functions of SG network, meanwhile, the proposed IMSSG decreases the complexity and latency compared with traditional IMS.
