description This paper investigates the influence of a Denial of Service (DoS) overload on the transfer time of GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) messages. This paper was conducted based on a testbed set up in order to carry out the experiments that evaluate the behaviour of transfer time of GOOSE messages during IED's bandwidth occupation. This practical apparatus mainly consists of two IEDs, Ethernet switches, IBM personal computer, fiber optic cables, GPS Clock, unshielded twisted pair cables, as well as support software. The results provide a benchmark for the transfer time of GOOSE messages between different devices. These times are important to be establish considering protection coordination in power systems.
