description In this article, we introduce a microwave imaging technique to estimate the relative permittivity of breast tissues. The method first estimates the travel times of microwaves across tissues along multiple directions, and then uses these travel times to reconstruct the microwave velocity and permittivity fields. Preliminary finite-difference time-domain simulations, based on realistic numerical breast phantoms, are performed to evaluate the method. Results show that the algorithm is able to quickly and accurately reconstruct permittivity images and detect the presence of a tumor.
