description | A SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) is a key component for high speed serial communication. Networks architectures and point to point communication links are vital building blocks for space-based high-speed communications and sensor data access. Honeywell has enabled optimized space communication systems with both its SerDes standard parts and its SerDes macro-cells that are part of the HX5000 Rad-Hard 150nm Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design platform. Communication networks that are developed with high speed SerDes embedded in an ASIC achieve significantly lower power, higher data throughput and more efficient area and weight usage than traditional parallel approaches for high-throughput backplanes and box-to-box network cabling systems. The addition of a programmable IO interface and user selectable transmission protocols to the SerDes function allows the optimization of performance and power for each interface channel and provides the system capability to compensate for the effects of media performance shifts due to power supply and environment shifts, component ageing and other developing impairments. In addition, the ability to switch protocols adds an additional dimension of adaption in heterogeneous networks. |
