description Take the example of shendong mining area; the paper elaborated the transforming relationship among the precipitation, surface water and groundwater, the change process and the results of such conditions as the original groundwater flow field, aquifer structure, groundwater's recharge, runoff and discharge. This reduced the region evaporation and spring excretion, increased the capture of water resources from external basin, and resulted in a certain increase in total water resources of the region. As the gob accumulates water, the storage of groundwater affected by the mining is changed and the amount of directly available groundwater is reduced. The key to protection of water resources in shallow coal mining are controlling the development height of water conducted fractured zone and avoiding or reducing the damage of aquifer structure. As a resource, mine water has great potential of development and utilization in terms of quality and quantity.
