description This paper presents a novel simplified and efficient direction-based block matching algorithm for fast motion estimation with very low complexity. Based on the video compression coding standards of UMHS algorithm, different combination of search points was also incorporated in the refinement step of the algorithm while maintaining optimal coding efficiency. Extensive experimental results show that our approach can reduce the search points effectively and increase the motion estimation algorithm efficiency. Overall, our method has real-time encoding efficiency and a rather fast coding speed with low-complexity.
