description | Many collaborative systems involve business processes and workflows performed on the web. Users would need to issue web service requests to complete their business transactions. The requests are of different types and priorities according to their roles in their respective business processes. One immediate problem is to ensure the timely and cost effective completion of the requests. In this paper, we have proposed to utilize service brokers for adequately assigning online continuous incoming service requests so as to achieve some pre-defined optimization goals. Here, the aim is to minimize the number of service providers required to fulfill the requests from the users. With this goal, the service broker can reduce the costs of service providers with the Semi-online Pseudo-open Multi-dimensional Vector-bin-packing (SoPomVa) algorithm. Preliminary experiments have been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the SoPomVa proposed in comparison with some traditional bin packing algorithms and good performance results are obtained. |
