description This paper presents a study on the concept of ldquogrid desktoprdquo as well as a design and development of a signal processing package based on the concept. Our application framework is a client-server architecture built based on the CSE-Online platform. The server is running on the grid infrastructure and the client can be any typical workstation or personal computer. The users can use our signal processing package through a web browser just like a desktop application. The key concept of our design is to provide an integrated grid enabled environment seamlessly for collaborative research in signal processing. We plan to include typical image processing functions, domain transformation tools, and sound analysis functions. All the computations will be performed on the grid environment transparently to users. Moreover, the users can work with our package without a network connection, which should enhance the ease of use.
