description A new model of smart monitoring system for empty nest elder is designed and implemented by effectively fusing three kinds of intelligence - sense intelligence, emotion intelligence and communication intelligence. It is a multi-agent system based on middleware, adopts the mechanism that various high-level perceptual components may be plugged into the middleware architecture, and implements unsupervised and continuous smart monitor for empty nest elder in terms of non obtrusive way in home environment. Being convenient for knowledge representation and reasoning during the course of context-aware, the approach of semantic-layering and semantic-abstracting step by step is adopted to design a set of new multimedia ontologies for bridging perceivable media world and high-level conceptual world. Hierarchical hidden Markov model is used to identify abnormal behaviors of occupants. At last, an experiment for detecting behaviors abnormality of occupant is finished to testify the feasibility of above model and key technologies.
