description Next generation networks will accommodate heterogeneous networks with high level of distribution and complexity. Thus, it will issue new challenges to the operations support system (OSS) architectures. The traditional OSS architectures will no longer be able support the complexity of the NGNs as a result; the redesign of the management architecture is necessary. The Service-Oriented Architecture is the solution to successfully manage the complexity of the NGNs. This paper presents existing management architectures and the concept of the SOA as well as the technologies that enables the SOA. The technologies that enable SOA are presented. Finally, a SOA-based management framework following the logic of the next generation operation support systems (NGOSS) developed in the TM-forum is proposed.
