Zusammenfassung:Since breaking RSA encryption algorithm, computational equipment over the Internet has vastly been used for massively parallel computations in both generic approaches like Grids and project-driven uses such as SETI etc. Grids are usually built over well-known and defined infrastructures, while ad hoc approaches take advantage of idle computers using screen savers. However, those approaches have mostly been used for well- specified concrete projects, where the type of processing and data structures has previously been analysed and well defined. We propose a new simplified approach of utilising PC idle time that will serve as a generic platform for massively parallel computations. Our testbed is a subset of the computers all over the campus of TEI of Athens and beyond.
