The testing methodology for the verification of network-side ISDN signaling protocols is presented as well as the testing system that supports the methodology. This system supports the automated production of test descriptions in parallel with the corresponding executable scripts, and it contains a run-time support for test execution. The relevant IN testing methodologies and test categories are also presented, with emphasis on network protocol and service testing and on network element interoperability testing, under different traffic loads and fault conditions. A testing system that has been realized to support the execution of the IN protocol and services tests is also described, along with data and field experience.< >
