description Workflow technology is a prime method to manage processes and resource. Building a distributed workflow management system (WSMS) in grid environment has attracted many researchers. Everything can be regarded as a service in OGSA (open grid service architecture). Thus a distributed workflow management can be easily built based on the composition of several component services. Using this service-oriented system architecture, a workflow management system embodies many attractive characteristics such as great efficiency, higher fault tolerant ability, good load balancing and reliability etc. This paper presents the architecture of s-WFMS, a service-based workflow management system in grid environment. Some important issues related to s-WFMS, such as process transfer, concurrent process execution, are discussed in detail.
