description This paper studies the problem of Quality of Services (QoS) guaranteed services in multimedia wireless networks. A QoS enabled delay reservation along with a call admission control scheme is proposed. The main idea of delay reservation is that for a call just initiated or handoff to a cell, it has lower possibility to handoff to its neighboring cell immediately. Thus, the initial reserved bandwidth is zero. The system adapts the reserved bandwidth according to time or received signal strength indication (RSSI). A weighted multileveled queue is designed for the implementation of delay reservation. Different amount of bandwidth is reserved for different leveled queue and the highest leveled queue obtains a highest quantity whereas a lowest leveled queue reserves zero bandwidth. For a reservation mobile, it first enters into the lowest level queue with zero bandwidth reserved, as the RSSI strength increases it upgrades into a higher leveled queue. For a higher leveled queue, a larger bandwidth quantity is reserved. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated through simulation of realistic cellular environments. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme produces lower dropping probability and call blocking rate and significantly improves bandwidth utilization.
