Enhanced strange baryon production in Au+Au collisions compared to p+p at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV

C</jtitle><date>2008</date><risdate>2008</risdate><volume>77</volume><issn>2469-9985</issn><eissn>2469-9993</eissn><abstract>We report on the observed differences in production rates of strange and multi-strange baryons in Au+Au collisions at sqrts = 200 GeV compared to p+p interactions at the same energy. The yields in Au+Au collisions, when scaled by the number of participants, are larger than those measured in the p+p data. The magnitudes of the differences grow with the strangeness of the baryon and with increasing centrality. The enhancements of the Au+Au yields are close to those measured in sqrts = 17.3 GeV collisions.
