Late Holocene sea-level changes in Yoron Island, the Ryukyus, Japan
Several indicators of slightly elevated shorelines have been investigated along the coasts of Yoron Island. The profiles of sea-corrosion notches suggest a continuous sequence of former sea levels reaching about 1.5 m above the present sea level. In-situ fossil barnacles Octomeris sulcata, collected...

Zusammenfassung: | Several indicators of slightly elevated shorelines have been investigated along the coasts of Yoron Island. The profiles of sea-corrosion notches suggest a continuous sequence of former sea levels reaching about 1.5 m above the present sea level. In-situ fossil barnacles
Octomeris sulcata, collected near the +1.5-m elevation, have been dated 800 ± 60 and 730 ± 60 yrs. B.P. A slightly elevated beachrock consisting mainly of
Calcarina has been dated 2090 ± 60 yrs. B.P.
A curve of relative sea-level variations in Yoron Island during the last three thousand years is given in Fig. 6. No evidence of a differential land uplift during the Late Holocene has been found along the coast. |
