Zusammenfassung: | In the year 2020, the world was hit by the coronavirus pandemic, known as Covid-19, which is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Measures to fight the new virus were adopted, such as social distancing, the use of masks, the closure of schools, clubs, gyms, among others. The closure measures and restrictions affected the routine and permanence of individuals in regular exercise training, promoting possible changes in body composition resulting from increased physical inactivity and sedentary behavior. The present study aimed to compare the body composition of gym-goers before closure and after reopening due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The sample included 39 practitioners (56.4% women, 30.6 [+ or -] 9.8 years) of bodybuilding and gyms group classes in the city of Uberlandia-MG. The body mass index (BMI), percentage of body fat (%BF), percentage of muscle mass (%MM) and waist circumference (WC) were evaluated. The results revealed no statistically significant differences between the moments before the closure and after the reopening of gyms during the pandemic. Most of participants maintained their body characteristics, with 87% of participants maintaining their BMI classification and 77% maintaining their WC classification, suggesting that healthy habits of physical activity and eating during the period of restrictions were possibly maintained.
