In the Brazilian Amazon, there are several types of regional vessels for daily use that can operate at high speeds. In this mode of operation, vessels can present safety challenges and risks. Although some academic studies have been carried out involving this type of vessels, it is still necessary to know more about their hydrodynamic behavior. The present study aims to describe the types of vessels that are usually built in the Brazilian Amazon, and which present high-speed characteristics, applying some technical criteria to verify whether they can be considered as high-speed vessels. To carry out the study, some representative vessels found in the State of Amazonas were considered. The first criterion used is based on the Froude number, according to academic literature, while the second criterion is based on the Brazilian Maritime Authority Standards. The vessels presented in the study are regionally known as expresso, lancha escolar, ambulancha, voadeira and rabeta. The results obtained confirmed that, at the operating speed considered, the vessels analyzed can be classified as high-speed vessels. Therefore, several challenges associated with this type of vessel, such as instabilities, overloading, and adverse environmental conditions, need to be identified and considered to increase their safety. It is hoped that the present study can be continued to increase the classification of regional vessels of common use in the Amazon. Nesse modo de operacao, as embarcacoes podem apresentar desafios e riscos de seguranca. Embora tenham sido realizados alguns estudos academicos envolvendo este tipo de embarcacoes, ainda se torna necessario conhecer mais sobre o seu comportamento hidrodinamico. O presente estudo tem como objetivo descrever os tipos de embarcacoes que costumam ser construidas na Amazonia brasileira e que apresentam caracteristicas de rapidez, aplicando alguns criterios tecnicos para verificar se podem ser consideradas como embarcacoes de alta velocidade.
