description To explore the effect of action-oriented education and action research practice on self-care ability of patients with permanent colostomy of rectal cancer and provide reference basis for clinical nursing. 150 patients with permanent colostomy of rectal cancer treated in our hospital from January 2016~June 2018 were selected as the subjects, and were divided into study group and basic group according to random digital method. The basic group took routine health education for nursing intervention, and the research group took action-oriented education and action research practice for nursing intervention. Strategies used by people to promote health (SUPPH) was used to evaluate the patient's self-efficacy and the exercise of self-care agency scale (ESCA) was used to evaluate the patient's self-care ability. Self-efficacy and self-care ability of two groups after admission (before nursing) and 2 weeks after nursing intervention were compared. Before treatment, the study group's self-efficacy (self-determination, positive attitude, stress reduction), self-care ability (health knowledge level, self- concept, self-responsibility, self-care skills) were not significantly different from the basic group. There was no statistical significance (P>0.05). After treatment, the self-efficacy and self- care ability of the study group were higher than the basic group, which were statistically significant (P
