description Topical therapies have an important place in the treatment of all acne lesions, whether mild to moderate or severe, by way of preventing development of the steps such as follicular hyperkeratinization, bacterial colonisation, and inflammation that are responsible for the pathogenesis of acne. They are frequently used as a monotherapy, part of combination regimens or with systemic antibiotics. Being effective in the treatment of both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions, topical retinoids are recommended as a first line treatment option for many acne patients. Topical antibiotics should be avoided as monotherapies due to the risk of developing bacterial resistance and should instead be used in combination therapies. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is an agent that is effective in inflammatory and noninflammatory acne lesions and is frequently used in combination with both systemic and topical antibiotics to prevent bacterial resistance. Besides in the treatment of acne lesions, topical retinoids, BPO, and azelaic acid in particular have a major role in the maintenance treatment to sustain the remission achieved. Keywords: Acne, azelaic acide, BPO, topical retinoids Topikal tedaviler aknenin patogenezinden sorumlu folikuler hiperkeratinizasyon, bakteriyel kolonizasyon ve enflamasyon gibi basamaklarin gelisimini onleyerek hafif-orta ya da siddetli olmak uzere tum akne lezyonlarinin tedavisinde onemli bir yere sahiptirler.
