We show the impossibility to obtain the D'auria--Fre-type superalgebras that allow for an underlying gauge theoretical structure of D = 11 supergravity from the superalgebra osp(1|32)+ [direct sum] osp(1|32)_, by means of a Weimar-Woods contraction.
