description An advanced migration model to estimate migration into real foodstuffs was established. From compositional and morphological data of various foodstuffs typical groups were derived, from which each was characterised by a conceptual model representing the significant features, events and processes controlling the behaviour of the system. For the various food groups in contact with a defined release system, e.g. food contact material, the mathematical models consisting of equations and input assumptions were developed. By quantifying the input parameters and solving the mathematical model with respect to the input assumptions made, the time dependent migration of target components from the release system into the real foodstuffs was estimated.
