Effect of xenobiotics on the structure of the rabbit´s liver

description | The liver is a multifunctional organ that plays an essential role in detoxification. In this study we investigated the effect of bendiocarbamate on the structure of this organ. Bendiocarb (2,2-dimethyl- 1,3-benzodioxol-4-yl-N-methyl carbamate) is a carbamate insecticide. In agriculture, it is used against a variety of insects, especially those found in the soil. The morphological changes in the rabbits liver were observed by light microscopy on days 3 and 10 after exposure to bendiocarb. On day 3 of the experiment we observed a massive infiltration of leukocytes into the portal spaces. In some cases the inflammatory cells extended from the portal tract into the parenchyma. On day 10 of the experiment, the morphological changes in the liver were not uniform. The affected lobules contained focal inflammation, with necrotic hepatocytes. Some of hepatocytes within the lobules lost their structure. The most common feature was binucleated hepatocytes. |
