description The experiment was carried out at Zlotniki Experimental Station that belongs to August Cieszkowski, Agricultural University in Poznan on a sandy loam soil classified as Albic Luvisols in 1997-2006. Treatments included two levels of nitrogen fertilization (0 and 100 kg N/ha). High variation of weather conditions reflected in grain yield of spring barley and spring triticale and in effects of nitrogen fertilization desisting. Growing of spring triticale without nitrogen fertilization decreased the grain yield about 0.92 t/ha compared to fertilized field. For spring barley this kind of difference was lower and reached 0.45 t/ha. The research shows that the grain yield of both cereals was not closely correlated with its components and no difference according to N fertilization was observed. Desisting of nitrogen fertilization decreased value of direct surplus for both species
