Zusammenfassung:The proper arrangement of the seat and the steering wheel of a riding tractor were examined in an experiment with a model driver's seat using steering torque as an analytical index. The main results were as follows: l) The steering torque was high when the steering wheel angle was small between 13.5 deg and 27.5 deg. It was maximum when the steering wheel angle was 13.5 deg (seat-steering wheel distance 675mm, steering wheel height 310 mm). 2) The steering torque was maximum when the ratio of seat-steering wheel distance to driver stature was 36.7% (steering wheel angle 13.5 deg, steering wheel height 310 mm). 3) The steering torque was high when the steering wheel height was high. It was maximum when the ratio of steering wheel height to driver stature was 21.2% (steering wheel angle 13.5 deg, seat-steering wheel distance 625 mm).
