Blood loinzed magnesium in the healthy dogs and cats

The normal ranges of ionized magnesium (IMg2+) concentration in the healthy dogs and cats were examined. Venous blood was obtained from 7 dogs and 8 cats. Whole blood and plasma were analyzed to determine IMg2+ concentration and pH. The normal ranges of IMg2+ concentrations of dog's and cat's bloods, were shown to be 0.501 - 0.562 mmol/1 and 0.494 - 0.545 mmol/1, respectively. When the plasma was stored in 4 deg C or -20 deg C for 24h, plasma IMg2+ value was not changed. These results suggest that the data obtained by present study are useful for the clinical diagnosis in dogs and cats.
