| description | The 64th campaign of systematic archaeological excavations at Sucidava site, district of Celei, town of Corabia, county of Olt, were conducted in the period 1st – 18th of July 2008, inside the Roman fortress and in the west area outside the precincts of the fortification. The excavations revealed the existence of a feature consisting in a new construction with hypocaustum, extended to the North over a paved area. At its end we uncovered the remains of a stone basin, in the area of which a water discharge canal ran to the South, towards the river, making a detour by the building with hypocaustum. Nearby we also identified the traces of a small brick basin and many pipe fragments. All these elements are contemporary. They might be dated to the period between the middle of the 4th century and the middle of the 5th century (the year 447 AD) and could be an argument in favour of the existence of a bath, unknown until the present investigations. |
