Zusammenfassung: | The following final report details the reports of an archaeological excavation at Racecourse Demesne, Co. Tipperary, which was excavated along a section of the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown Road Improvement Scheme. Three cremation pits were identified at this site, one of which contained the remains of a truncated inverted cordoned urn. Cremated bone from within the urn produced a date of 1878-1609 cal. BC Pits, postholes and stakeholes were identified in association with the site, some of which may form elements of a possible structure. This site was located within a cluster of sites, including burial and occupation (169.1, 163.1 & 169.A2) dating to the Early Bronze Age, and would indicate that this area was intensely settled at the end of the Early Bronze Age/ start of the Middle Bronze Age. |
