La présente invention concerne un perfectionnement d'un procédé de mesure de la contrainte résiduelle dans un matériau. Ce procédé consiste d'abord à appliquer sur la surface à étudier un point de couche de liquide thermo-indicateur. Le procédé consiste ensuite à constater avec un premier laser qu'une forme de chatoiements entoure le point. Le procédé consiste ensuite à chauffer au laser à infrarouge lointain le point jusqu'à obtenir une déformation plastique de la surface. Dès lors, une comparaison soustractive entre les formes de chatoiements avant et après déformation, donne un motif de franges fournissant une indication visuelle et quantitative du niveau de réaction de la surface plastifiée à la contrainte pendant la chauffe, ce qui permet de calculer la contrainte.
