The invention relates to thread-forming, chain-branched polyesters and copolyesters with relative molecular weight of > 10,000 obtained by condensing 50-500 ppm of one or several chain-branching agents of general formula (I) which have been added during the production of said polyesters, wherein n = 2-4, i.e. di-, tri or tetrapentaerythrite, in the polyester-forming initial constituents. The inventive polyesters and copolyesters are particularly suited for rapid spinning of textile and industrial threads with winding speeds of 2,500-10,000 m/min, which is followed by the usual stretching procedures or texturing processes.
