Le procédé de dépôt d'un revêtement, essentiellement sur un substrat constitué en un matériau contenant du carbone d'un outil de coupe de métaux, consiste à effectuer l'évaporation d'un matériau de formation de carbure par décharge en arc sous vide. Ensuite, une surface de travail du substrat est nettoyée et chauffée par bombardement cathodique, effectué par des ions du matériau de formation de carbure, jusqu'à atteindre la température à laquelle la réaction de carburation du matériau de formation de carbure a lieu avec le carbone du matériau du substrat.
