L'invention concerne un appareil de thermoformage et un procédé de fabrication d'un plateau à base de fibres. L'appareil de thermoformage comporte une partie mâle et une partie femelle. La partie mâle comporte une section saillante et une saillie secondaire qui entre en contact avec une bande de fibres comprimées de matériau en fibres non tissées avant les parties restantes de la section en saillie. Des mécanismes d'avancement rétractent la saillie secondaire de telle sorte que les parties mâle et femelle compriment la bande de fibres pour thermoformer un plateau.
