La présente invention concerne une souche Dunariella salina OH214 ayant une capacité améliorée à produire des pigments, et en particulier de la lutéine. Comme il est possible de produire des pigments caroténoïdes, particulièrement des xanthophylles, avec la souche Dunariella salina OH214 en consommant moins d'énergie, il est possible de produire efficacement des pigments à un niveau industriel. En outre, la souche Dunariella salina OH214 peut être appliquée comme matière première pour les aliments contenant des pigments, les aliments fonctionnels de santé et les produits pharmaceutiques. De plus, la souche Dunariella salina OH214 est une microalgue indigène en Corée et ne pose donc aucun problème d'OGM, il est possible de réduire les coûts en utilisant l'eau de mer comme milieu de culture en Corée, et on peut s'attendre à un effet de développement industriel connexe.
