The shoe is made to be flexible in the area of the recess, which, under the operational forces of the brake shoe being pressed by means of a bracket to a wheel exhibiting tread wear close to a maximum permissible value, provides a mutual overlap coefficient of the brake shoe-wheel friction pairing that is from 0.08 to 0.12. L'invention concerne le transport ferroviaire et notamment des mâchoires de frein de moyens de transport ferroviaires de marchandises, qui forment un couple de frottement avec la surface de roulement d'une roue de chemin de fer. L'invention vise à assurer des caractéristiques d'exploitation désirées d'une mâchoire non seulement lors du montage sur une roue sans usure mais aussi sur celles dont l'usure approche les valeurs limites admissibles. Ce résultat est obtenu par la fabrication d'une mâchoire de frein de moyen de transport ferroviaire, qui comprend une carcasse métallique et un élément de frottement composite polymérique au centre duquel on a réalisé, du côté de la surface de travail de la mâchoire, un renfoncement dont la profondeur représente plus de la moitié de l'épaisseur de la mâchoire. La mâchoire possède une flexibilité dans la zone du renfoncement qui assure, lors des efforts de fonctionnement, une compression par le sabot de la mâchoire contre une roue dont le kilométrage approche du maximum admissible, la valeur du chevauchement réciproque du couple de frottement mâchoire-roue allant de 0,08 à 0,12.
