La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer l'aptitude d'un goudron de pyrolyse, tel qu'un goudron de vapocraqueur, à une valorisation par hydrotraitement sans encrassement excessif du réacteur d'hydrotraitement. Le goudron de pyrolyse est échantillonné, l'échantillon est analysé pour déterminer une ou plusieurs caractéristiques du goudron liées à sa réactivité, et l'analyse est utilisée pour déterminer les conditions dans lesquelles le goudron peut être mélangé, prétraité et/ou hydrotraité.
